Burris gave Sandra Murray's class 20 Macintosh iBooks and access to the university's wireless network for one year. As part of the initiative, Ball State doctoral student Steve Ransom is observing Murray and her students and noting how computers impact lesson plans and change Murray's teaching. Through this experiment, Murray said she discovered that the laptops were effective learning tools. 'I think if teachers allowed their students to use laptops full time, teachers would dramatically change the way they teach,' Murray said, pointing to her students. 'Look at them working. I'm acting more as a coach than a teacher.' As soon as the students walk into the classroom, they grab their computers and begin working on their afternoon assignment with little instruction from Murray. They dig into their current project, researching Lewis and Clark. [MORE...] | ![]() |

| Butler University, Music and Media Arts Dr. Tim Brimmer tbrimmer@butler.edu Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana is no stranger to using technology in its music and media arts programs. Associate Professor and choral director Dr. Tim Brimmer first brought computer-based music technology to Butler when he built their ÒMulti-sensory Learning LabÓ over 10 years ago. But this year the school decided it was time to bring the 17-station facility up to date with recent developments in the music industry. "Complete music production on the computer desktop is at once easier, better sounding, and more economical than using lots of outboard gear," says Brimmer. "We wanted workstations in the lab that were simple, but powerful. M-AudioÕs OzonicÑa combination 37-note keyboard and FireWire audio interfaceÑmakes each one of the Macintosh G5 iMac workstations a place where students can take their music and sound ideas from inception, through the creative process, and all the way to finished project on CD or DVD." | Concept Prints, Inc. Tom Hackett, President 6707 Guion Road Indianapolis, IN 46268 317/290-1222 phone 317/290-1954 fax tom@conceptprints.com LEADER OF THE PACK Providing a wide variety of embroidered apparel, screen printed apparel, and an unlimited variety of promotional marketing products and the service that goes with it is what we are all about at Concept Prints. Our philosophy has not changed since our formation in 1982 and that is to provide our customers with the widest possible variety of quality products, produce them in a timely fashion, and tie it all together with fair and consistent pricing. It also takes a few other things that we've got... the finest and most experienced staff coupled with our own new facility that's big, clean, and built to produce! We've filled our facility with the finest screen printing and embroidery equipment that is available today. It's second to none! Our promotional marketing products department has access to over 400,000 items and they have the experience and equipment to source it and follow your orders to your door. Limitations lower quality and service. It's that simple. All of this seems to work; our customers are pleased! ARTISTICALLY SPEAKING Our graphic artwork department has seen the most changes in the past decade. Computers have become the tool that the camera was in the past. Camera-ready artwork has been replaced by digital-ready artwork. There are several graphic artwork programs that we use and many others that our customers' artists use to create artwork. We've come up with a list of formats that enable us to receive artwork from our customers via e-mail or by regular delivery services and prepare it for screen printing, embroidery, or various promotional product decorating techniques. Be sure to view our page titled ÒHOW TO SUBMIT ARTWORKÓ. For certain cases, we also have a new system of posting our customers' artwork on this web page to make artwork approval simplified. It becomes as easy as a password and a click of the mouse and there it is for you to see. You need not have any particular artwork program on your computer to view your designs. Artwork approval has never been so easy. Digital artwork sure makes artwork more manageable and more of what it should be... creative and hassle free! LET US LOGO YOUR WORLD On a daily basis we produce the finest embroidered, screen printed, and promotional marketing products in the country. We carry that distinction with great pride. We will always be on top of technological advances and provide our customers with cutting-edge product and decoration. Your needs are never too large or too small. Our current customer's needs are from a few pieces to hundreds of thousands of pieces. We provide cataloging and fulfillment for many of our clients. Our staff will always look for ways to improve. All of us at Concept Prints are committed to quality, service, and delivery. We have always worked hard to be on top of our trade and we will continue to do so. We are proud to have many satisfied clients, but we are short one very important customer. We need you! | ![]() |

Robert McLaughlin, President of ApplePickers (Indy's local MUG), notes in a recent newsletter: "...one of the things that bugged me a bit was the fact that we don't seem to do much as a club to promote the use of Macintosh computers in the lives of those around us. We have to start somewhere, and that is just what I did. I met Andrew Granger at our May meeting. After talking with him briefly, I discovered that he and his wife own a coffee shop at 11th and Alabama, the Corner Coffee. They have been interested in adding internet connectivity to their store but had been unable to due to the costs. How did we help them? At our June meeting, all proceeds collected from auction, combined with matching funds from the board, all added up to purchasing an Airport base station and card for the Corner Coffee! Now if you happen to be in the neighborhood with your Airport-enabled laptop, you will be able to surf the web and enjoy great coffee and dessert. Look for more information coming soon about the status of this installation and future offerings from the Corner Coffee." | ![]() |

I work primarily in porcelain, and produce mostly functional, colorful ware. Also, as a side enterprse (as if I need more to do), I sell clay, raw materials, tools, equipment, and supplies in the form of Indiana Clay Company. Recent purchase of an iMac, plus an opportunity to teach at Purdue University, has made me an insufferable techno-potter. Maybe this is good. My aging bones are less stressed in front of the computer. I'll probably get carpal tunnel either way. Continue to make around 4,000 pots and other items each year, plus occasional side projects. My first introduction to computers was a Macintosh over 10 years ago... and I took the "bite" when I began applying my art to computers since high school. Although, in my field, I tend to use both platforms (Mac & Win), my first pick is definitely the Mac because of its usability, reliability, software, accessories, and the visual appeal. I have a few close friends who have made the switch because of my experience... and they all said how proud they feel to belong to this silent underground club. They have made new connections simply by announcing, "Hey, you use a Mac too!" And that's cool because it doesn't have quite the same sting when said the other way :) | ![]() |

| diedrichHARMON Doug Diedrich 5752 Wheeler Rd Indianapolis, IN 46216-1038 317/377-5900 phone info@helddiedrich.com Integrated Marketing Communications. Every time a stakeholder comes into contact with your brand, be it a radio jingle, your logo on a package, your building signage, or even a conversation with your customer service department, that contact has the potential to impact your company's brand equity. The cornerstone of integrated marketing is that everything a company does (and sometimes what it doesn't do) sends a message. The premise is simple. Through integrated marketing, synergies can be achieved when all brand contacts work in concert. To be successful, the philosophy of integrated marketing must permeate the entire organization - every division, every department, every employee - every point of contact - every time. Integrated Marketing Communications is a strategy employed by companies that embrace the concept of integrated marketing. The premise is that a more powerful and effective synergy can be achieved when all marketing communications - advertising, public relations, direct marketing, sales aids, etc. - work in concert. It ensures that all stakeholders are exposed to consistent and complementary messages. HeldDiedrich is dedicated to the creation of synergy in our clients' marketing communications strategies, assuring that every brand message is concise, consistent, and complementary - the building blocks of strong brand equity and market leadership. | ![]() |
