| Association of Macintosh Trainers - INDIANA MEMBERS P.O. Box 2743 Newport News, VA 23609 757/877-9463 phone 757/877-7783 fax namt@aol.com An international network of professional Macintosh computer trainers, educators and instructors. First established in 1991, AMT is now truly an international network of Apple Macintosh trainers, instructors, educators and consultants. We feel that Apple Macintosh training support has been neglected for much too long and has never been given the priority that it deserves. As a result, Macintosh end users have been in desperate need of quality training support, but far too often, they simply can't find it. It became apparent to us that if there was going to be any action taken, then it would have to come from the rest of us. We believe that an active Macintosh support networking system is vital to help keep the Macintosh OS alive and to assist end users everywhere. We invite you to please join us! Our Goals:

| Ball State University - Burris Laboratory School 2201 W University Ave Muncie, IN 47306 765/285-1131 phone smurray@bsu.edu Laptops and wireless network change teacher's approach (3/11/2003) MUNCIE, Ind. - Fifth-grade students at Burris Laboratory School on the campus of Ball State University explore the bounds of technology while they trace the epic journey of Lewis and Clark. Burris gave Sandra Murray's class 20 Macintosh iBooks and access to the university's wireless network for one year. As part of the initiative, Ball State doctoral student Steve Ransom is observing Murray and her students and noting how computers impact lesson plans and change Murray's teaching. Through this experiment, Murray said she discovered that the laptops were effective learning tools. 'I think if teachers allowed their students to use laptops full time, teachers would dramatically change the way they teach,' Murray said, pointing to her students. 'Look at them working. I'm acting more as a coach than a teacher.' As soon as the students walk into the classroom, they grab their computers and begin working on their afternoon assignment with little instruction from Murray. They dig into their current project, researching Lewis and Clark. [MORE...] | ![]() |

| Butler University, Music and Media Arts Dr. Tim Brimmer tbrimmer@butler.edu Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana is no stranger to using technology in its music and media arts programs. Associate Professor and choral director Dr. Tim Brimmer first brought computer-based music technology to Butler when he built their ÒMulti-sensory Learning LabÓ over 10 years ago. But this year the school decided it was time to bring the 17-station facility up to date with recent developments in the music industry. "Complete music production on the computer desktop is at once easier, better sounding, and more economical than using lots of outboard gear," says Brimmer. "We wanted workstations in the lab that were simple, but powerful. M-AudioÕs OzonicÑa combination 37-note keyboard and FireWire audio interfaceÑmakes each one of the Macintosh G5 iMac workstations a place where students can take their music and sound ideas from inception, through the creative process, and all the way to finished project on CD or DVD." Wolcott, IN 47995 219/279-2105 phone 219/279-2108 fax Built in 1974, renovated in 1999, school to 495 students - "One of the smallest and striving to be the best" HOME TO THE CAVALIERS The Tri-County intermediate school has received and has been putting to use a newly purchased wireless portable lab. This lab consists of 16 ibooks (laptop computers). Fifteen of the ibooks fit into a mobile cart. The additional ibook is for the teacher. Features of the cart include an Airport (a wireless base station) that is plugged into the school network and a printer. The cart has fifteen slots into which the ibooks can be inserted for storage and their batteries recharged. Funds for the purchase came from e-rate discounts for which the Corporation applies every year and from residual funds from the 2001 technology budget. The Intermediate teachers have been trained on how to use the lab, and elementary principal Steve Ulrich reports that the lab was put into use immediately. The benefits of the lab will be many. Teacher training will be more efficient. Whole classes can have access to computers at once rather than rotating students through the five computers in the classroom. No longer will elementary students need to be bused to the Middle-Senior High School to do the MAP testing - the test that was introduced last fall. The possibilities are numerous and teachers will quickly find many ways to use this valuable resource - one of two new resources in the Corporation. | ![]() |
